For over a decade, DESY has been building electronics based on the MicroTCA standard, working in close collaboration with industry partners.

Through our developments and partnerships, we have created a complete ecosystem that offers users access to a large catalog of ready-made components. This enables users to focus on their specific application needs while utilizing commercial components from the MicroTCA platform for all support- and infrastructure tasks.

We believe that a strong community is essential to the success of the standard. To support this, we contribute to the ecosystem by licensing many of our developments, making them available to third parties.

On this site, you will find both MicroTCA and non-MicroTCA boards developed by DESY over recent years. Many of them are available as off-the-shelf components through our license partners.

What is MicroTCA?

MicroTCA (Micro Telecommunications Computing Architecture) is an electrical and mechanical open standard for managed, compact, modular and high-reliability electronic boards.

Main advantages of MicroTCA are its high modularity and reliability along state-of-the art digital technologies supporting PCIe Gen.3, 10G and 40G Ethernet and other high-speed interconnects.

MicroTCA.4 has rapidly evolved to become a viable standard especially for mixed-signal applications in particle accelerators, high-energy physics, plasma fusion sources and many more.

For industries with a keen interest in fully managed, compact, modular and reliable computing performance MicroTCA is the platform to trust on.

Licensing

DESY licenses many of its developments to industry partners. By doing so, the boards can be used not only at our own facilities but also by third parties. Our partners are responsible for manufacturing these boards and providing support to the end customers. With their help and constant maintenance, we are able to keep the products active for many years.

With this strategy, these components became standard off-the-shelf industry components that are used in many applications and at many facilities. Partners usually stock these products, ensuring they are readily available with short delivery times.
